Schedule of the trip to Dendera half day

We will pick up you  from your hotel early in the morning at 6:00 a.m. and set off for Dendera, a distance of approximately 220 km. (When departing from Marsa Alam, a different route is taken.

The Dendera Temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of joy, beauty, maternal qualities and love. In Greek and Ptolemaic times, Hathor was equated with Aphrodite and by the Romans with Venus.

During your visit to the temple you can see the Sacred Lake, the sanatorium, the Mamisi and the only surviving image of Pharaoh Cleopatra. Your guide will also show you the beautiful astronomical displays on the ceiling and the enigmatic reliefs in the temple's crypt.

A special highlight is the famous wall relief of Cleopatra VII and her son, who was fathered by Julius Caesar. Further depictions of Roman emperors make this place a “Who’s Who” of antiquity.

During this individually guided “Dendera Half Day” excursion, you will learn about the fascinating light bulbs of Dendera, the first calendar in human history, the Dendera zodiac and much more about the history of astronomy. The Dendera Temple once served as an astronomical research center.
